What is QiGong:

Ruth Donnoley The meaning of QiGong is the cultivating and working with energy to strengthen and cleanse the body. “Qi” means life force or vital energy of the body and ‘Gong” means accomplishments or skills that are cultivated through steady practice.

Benefits of QiGong:

The following patterns being taught are active QiGong, which includes stretching, deep breathing, low impact conditioning and isometrics. They will help increase your range of motion, build strength, increase stamina and improve your balance and coordination. Internally they will massage your internal organs allowing them to work more efficiently. The movements, breath and meditations will improve all of the systems of the body and will have both a preventative and curative effects.

The 3 main patterns being taught currently are:

Standing Ba Duan Jin: This art coordinates regulated respiration with graceful movements. It incorporates meditation, visualizations and mind intent into each movement, building strength and stamina within relaxation. The smooth conscious and flowing movements harmonize and balance our energy within.

Seated Ba Duan Jin: This has the same benefits as the standing form, however, it is done seated on a chair or a pillow. It is beneficial for anyone and for those who are unable to stand on their feet for an extended length of time. (Anyone with disabilities, physically challenged or senior citizens).

Tendon Changing QiGong: This is a combination of a couple of patterns. This is excellent for the prevention of Carpal Tunnel (due to repetitive motions of the fingers, hands or wrists). It will help build strength and open the Qi flow to the hands, wrists and lower arms. In addition, this pattern is done in a standing posture, which also builds strength and stamina in the legs and the hip area.
